After working in the government relations world for more than 15 years, Nicole Willis-Grimes decided to follow her passion for helping nonprofits become the best they can be - effective, efficient, responsible, transparent, and sustainable.
With twenty years of nonprofit experience, Nicole has been a volunteer, employee, board member, and board president of several organizations nationally and internationally. She has led nonprofit boards through strategic and succession planning, board development/expansion, communication strategy development, and crisis communications.
Nicole was the director of public affairs for The Ferraro Group for more than 13 years where she continues to serve as a senior consultant. Representing clients before state and local elected officials, she has been responsible for developing and fostering relationships with elected officials and key decision-makers, creating and implementing clients’ business and legislative goals, leading public education outreach efforts for ballot question campaigns, and assisting with client communications and social media strategies. Likewise, she has volunteered her time in helping local nonprofits research, monitor, and engage in the legislative process.
Prior to moving to Nevada in 2005, Nicole worked in Washington, D.C., first with several nonprofits, including Amnesty International, as well as for the U.S. State Department. Prior to her time in D.C., she was a program assistant for Minneapolis-based The Advocates for Human Rights. There, she was responsible for volunteer management, fundraising, event-planning, and research. She has also worked with nonprofits and foundations in the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Armenia, and Germany. In 2000, she was awarded a Human Rights Fellowship through the University of Minnesota to conduct field research on trafficking in women in Ukraine and Armenia. She is also a 1997 Fulbright Scholarship recipient.
Nicole holds a BA from Bard College, and an MA in International Affairs from The George Washington University. She is a board member for the Nevada Preservation Foundation and serves on the advisory committee of the Northern Nevada International Center.
